Axie Infinity decides to end the year with a bang and introduces a new Parts Evolution feature, allowing players to upgrade the various parts of their Axies. And with materials needed for evolutions from releasing Axies, even the smallest Axie has a role to play in the new ecosystem!
Despite being one of the older games in the web3 space, Axie Infinity continues to evolve and grow. And speaking of evolution, players can now evolve the parts of their Axies and upgrade them to a new level and visual look!
Share evolution
Axies now have the ability to evolve one part every 10 levels. Now that the level cap has been increased to 60, each Axie can potentially develop all six parts.
But developing a Part is not free. Evolving an Axie part costs $2 in AXS tokens and 100 souvenirs, with the price increasing with each part evolved on the same Axie. Players can purchase souvenirs from the game store or receive them by releasing Axies into the wild (i.e. burning the NFTs).
Additionally, Mystic, Japanese, Xmas, Summer, Shiny, and Agamogenesis Parts require Radiant Spirit Shells to evolve. Players can purchase these from the market, win them through the new Garuda Shrine Shop, and earn them by climbing a Mystic Axie. Materials and Radiant Shells are all ERC-1155 tokens, so they can be traded freely between players.
Part Evolution lasts four days, although impatient players can choose to pay double the amount of Mementos materials for an instant evolution.
Evolved parts are not genetically determined and are therefore not passed on to offspring. Each Axie must develop its components independently.
But as an added bonus, evolved parts are not only visible in Axie Infinity, but they also appear on your Axies in Project T. So now you can show off your new evolved Axies to everyone!
For those feeling competitive, the first player to have an Axie that has all six evolved parts will win a Mystic Axie, and the first 10,000 evolved Axies will be entered into a raffle to win Radiant Shells and Origin Axies!
And while these component upgrades are only visual, the team hinted that these evolutions could play a role in other games in the future. Either way, this new feature is a great incentive for players to burn their Axies. And it creates deflationary pressure on what is generally an inflationary NFT collection!
What is Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity started as a creature fighting and breeding game, but has grown into a larger world. Their original game underwent a major overhaul and is now known as Axie Origin. They also have a land-based game called Homelands that is currently in alpha testing. Axie Infinity is the name for the larger ecosystem.
In Axie Origin, players use a team of three Axie NFTs to defeat opponents in Adventure Mode (PvE) and Arena (PvP). Rewards from the Arena include Smooth Love Potions (SLP) and AXS, the governance token for Axie Infinity. Players use SLP to breed new Axies. Parent Axies can only produce offspring a limited number of times. Players can also add Runes and Charms from PvE mode to boost Axies. Origins runs in seasons with special rewards at the end of each season.
Homelands is a farming and crafting game where players assign their Axies to different tasks. Ultimately, these two games will interact in a meaningful way. Axie Infinity has also released the first test versions of ‘Project T’, a social world for Axie owners.
Originally on the Ethereum network, Axie Infinity moved to their own Ronin sidechain in 2021. This side chain isn’t just for Axie, though. Other developers can build on it too!
