The concept of a metaverse, a virtual shared space where users can interact in different ways, is gaining popularity worldwide. In response to this trend, the Chinese government has taken proactive steps to establish standards for a Chinese metaverse platform.

This month, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced the formation of the Metaverse Standardization Working Group. This group consists of Chinese universities, government institutions and technology giants such as Tencent, Huawei and Baidu. With their combined expertise, the group aims to shape China’s metaverse future by setting rules for metaverse platforms.

The MIIT emphasized standards that reflect industrial development and management needs. Setting clear guidelines and standards creates a more structured and secure environment in which users can navigate the metaverse. Additionally, feedback on the group’s proposal is open until February 18, emphasizing a collaborative approach to setting these standards.

This initiative is in line with China’s Web3 strategy, which focuses on promoting technologies such as blockchain and metaverse. China is committed to exploring potential applications of these technologies, demonstrating its commitment to leading the digital sector.

In SeptemberFour ministries, including the MIIT, have jointly released a three-year action plan to achieve breakthroughs in metaverse technology.
