DeLorean, the famous car manufacturer known for the iconic DMC-12 sports car from ‘Back to the Future’‘, revealed its plans to introduce a web3 marketplace in partnership with crypto payments company MoonPay.
Developed in partnership with Otherlife (now owned by MoonPay), the marketplace aims to enable DeLorean enthusiasts to participate in buying, selling and trading vehicle reservation slots via blockchain technology.
Aiming to increase transparency during the reservation process, it will use web3 to monitor vehicle performance analytics, giving buyers an unchanging view of each car’s historical and performance data.
Launching on DeLorean.com in Q4 2024, existing build slot holders will initially be able to manage reservations, with new ones opening shortly thereafter.

Such a venture could ring a bell as DeLorean had previously unveiled a similar initiative alongside crypto startup NFT IQ in 2022.
During that time, DeLorean had proposed offering tokenized reservations for upcoming cars, each accompanied by a digital representation of the vehicle as a NFT collectible.
However, NFT IQ is no longer operational, as evidenced by its defunct URL and the lack updates on his social media accounts since 2022.
It appears that DeLorean has split from NFT IQ. In response to questions about the previous digital twin concept and its continuity, a representative said Otherlife would “reassess the entire strategy to ensure the optimal user experience going forward.
While the past may have seen setbacks, DeLorean’s partnership with MoonPay heralds a promising future for enthusiasts and collectors alike in the world of blockchain-driven car trading.
