Gam3 Awards 2023 Announced – Play to Earn

Gam3s.gg, another site focused on web3 gaming, has announced the winners of their 2023 Gam3 Awards. With dozens of games taking home awards in nineteen categories, the competition was fierce this year!

As the year draws closer to its end, it’s time for the annual awards. One of the first to announce their winners this year, the Gam3 Awards offered users 19 gaming categories, each with a number of gaming projects to choose from. Voting on these prizes was completed, the counts were tallied and the winners have now been announced!

Prize winners

Parallel was the big winner of 2023. They won prizes for the best strategy game, the best card game and the game of the year! A TCG with some interesting game mechanics and a functioning playing and earning system. I was initially a little surprised to see this chosen as game of the year. But once I saw that the other nominations included two unreleased games and a simple, card-based, sports-themed game, the choice makes more sense. The only real rival for game of the year was Big Time, which managed to score three awards of its own: best multiplayer, best adventure and best RPG!

Shooting games are currently popular in the web3 space. As more come online, the competition to stand out with high-quality gameplay and graphics becomes fiercer. Both Shrapnel and Deaddrop, two shooter-based games still in development, walked away with two awards at the Gam3 Awards. Shrapnel won for best graphics and most anticipated game. And with a supposed public release in the first quarter of 2024, Shrapnel has some big expectations to live up to!

Deaddrop is still in the early stages of development. But they do allow a small group of player investors to play the game with regular developer build releases. This limited exposure was apparently enough for Deaddrop to win the awards for best shooter and best esports game!

My Pet Hooligan, a game in which players fight each other as tricky rabbits on a city map, won for best action game. And users chose Pixels, which recently started a notable partnership with the Mocaverse, as the best casual game.

Voters voted Mighty Action Heroes for best mobile game. Pirate Nation for the best game on the chain. And NFL rivals took home the award for best sports game. Meanwhile, Champions Ascension won for best fighting game.

And finally, Wildcard was the “Gam3s’ choice” and Star Atlas was the “People’s Choice”. You can view the official pricing page at https://gam3s.gg/gam3awards/

Final thoughts

Now, of course, all these awards shouldn’t be taken as the definitive answers for the best games. After all, publicly voted prizes such as these are often strongly influenced by the extent to which they can motivate their community to vote. And some prizes even went to games that are not yet widely playable! But overall, this awards list contains a selection of high-quality web3 games that any interested player should try out.

And the web3 gaming space is still improving and growing. Next year I hope that all categories of these awards will be filled with games that have already been released. Apart from the most expected of course.

But it’s still interesting to see which games can generate the most support, and to be reminded that the possibilities in web3 gaming are expanding rapidly. And that there are still many reasons to be excited about the future of gaming on the blockchain!
