Legends of the Mara Live on September 26

The day is almost here for the first playable game using Otherside deeds! Legends of the Mara goes live on September 26 and offers Deed owners the chance to hatch Mara, farm resources and hunt powerful creatures, potentially collecting items along the way!

It’s time to hatch your Mara, farm resources, acquire new skills and send the Mara on dangerous hunts for special items and treasure! Legends of the Mara, the first game from the Otherside team, will launch on September 26.

Legends of the Mara is only available to Otherdeed holders, though I imagine they also offer a delegation system like the HV-MTL Forge game, though perhaps not with this first release.

In typical Yuga style, we received nice videos and infographics and some details about the game, but there is no guide on how to play the game. So I imagine this will be a learning experience for the first players!

We recently received some more information about the game. We learned that Mara evolves into Oda, and Koda are Oda that have been around for a long time. But Koda will always be different from the adult Mara who evolves into Kodamara. So now that that’s all cleared up, we also know that Mara each has a specific role: farmer, hunter, or wizard. However, Koda can handle any of the three tasks.

Legends of the Mara has seasons, one leading into the next. At the end of each season, players can earn certain loot items, some of which will be used in an extended gameplay area in the next season.

Legends of the Mara gameplay

Players nest ships in their other deed to grow them into Maras. Only one ship may be nested on a deed at a time. There are three types of ships: Hunter, Farmer and Enchanter. A nested ship will evolve into the corresponding Mara type. Players assign Mara to their Otherdeed to begin working. Players can also use sediment fragments and seasonal catalysts to upgrade their Mara to a Kodmara, a more powerful version of the Mara. The selection of ingredients used to generate the Kodamara determines the final result. Mara evolution is a one-way process.

Kodas are special because they can get started right away. They can also be assigned to one of three roles.

The Otherdeed Tier rating determines the labor capacity. While the Sediment trait determines how many sediment fragments the Other deed produces. Farmers placed on an Other Deed allow for the harvesting of fragments.

Players can choose between farming their Deed for resources, or battling The Shattered for special treasures known as Unearthed Artifacts. The game features a leaderboard showing which players have done the most damage to The Shattered, and how long it took to take down one of these mighty titans. Top players on the leaderboard will receive additional treasures at the end of the season. Legends of the Mara will feature an evolving storyline with their seasons, making each one a little different.

The Otherside team also mentioned (without any details) their plans to form ‘alliances’ with other PFP projects as “reinforcements in the Legends of the Mara battle.” Maybe we can use NFTs from other projects as workers and fighters?
