A new MMORPG joins the neighborhood as MetaCene, a game set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, kicks off their closed alpha test! With all the traditional MMO elements, will MetaCene establish itself as a major player in the still evolving web3 MMO space?
MetaCene is starting alpha testing for their MMO today.
This alpha test should be open to everyone? The MetaCene team is not very good at clear communication. You should definitely have access if you are whitelisted or if you own a MetaCene Apostle NFT (or MAN). And it seems that you can also download and play the game by simply registering at https://metacene.io/pre/m.html
Metacene recently completed their sale of Apostles, founder-style NFTs that offer early access to alpha testing, player management privileges, and other benefits. This Apostle NFTs can be picked up on OpenSea for about $55 USD.

This alpha will be on the Rangers Testnet (Robin chain). I’ve never heard of this chain, but you can find instructions on how to connect and register your account at the official MetaCene webpage.
Players are given some USDT (on the testnet, so worth nothing), which they can exchange for MUD, the in-game currency to get them started.
MetaCene includes an in-game marketplace, and players can also withdraw items and bring them into play, paving the way for players to trade. But again, this is all on testnet. None of the advancements will be permanent.
However, there are also potential play and earning opportunities for this alpha. MetaCene runs a number of events to reward players for things like mining the most ore, improving weapons to level 7+, and even just logging in and playing the game! Rewards include exclusive titles, NFTs and even USDT tokens. Alpha prizes will not be delivered until after the official launch of the game.
The MetaCene alpha runs from July 31 through August 7.
What is Metacene?
Metacene is a post-apocalyptic MMORPG with an old school MMO feel. Players can customize their character, equip items, upgrade and improve equipment, collect resources, craft new items, learn skills, kill monsters, and fight against other players.
Metacene includes PvE, PvP and neutral zones. Players can choose to mark themselves in neutral zones so they can attack other players. When players take part in PvP actions, they are given a ‘Red Alert’ status, which turns their name red. If they are defeated, their killer has a chance to take some of their equipment. If a Red Alert player accumulates too many kills, they will be sent to a prison. Players can reduce their kill count by defeating monsters. However, in the areas designated by PvP, there is no jail time for participating in PvP.
Metacene also plans to include guilds, in-game player management, and user-created content.
