Mysten Labsthe company behind the Sui blockchain, collaborates with Playtron to introduce an open gaming handheld called SuiPlay OX1.
The partnership, unveiled at the Sui Basecamp event in Paris, aims to create a mass market for web3 games, and comes amid an increasing trend towards blockchain integration in gaming, such as the recently announced Bitcoin-enabled BitBoy Ordz Games.
The device will run PlaytronOS, a gaming operating system that is compatible with various hardware configurations and provides access to multiple game stores, including Steam and the Epic Games Store, through a unified launcher.
Source: SuiScheduled for a global release in 2025, the SuiPlay0X1 will feature native Web3 capabilities, integrating Sui blockchain technology for asset ownership tied directly to the device’s accounting system.
Playtron CEO Kirt McMaster said: “We’re building a new gaming operating system to open up the PC. Essentially, we’re trying to take the PC gaming ecosystem out of Windows and recontextualize it into our own operating system.”
With partnerships already established with several game developers, Mysten Labs aims to ensure a wide range of games for SuiPlay 0X1 users.
Adeniyi Abiodun, Chief Product Officer at Mysten Labs, also added: “We’ve been looking at how we go to market with this, but we think you have to have a device that makes sense, where people can appreciate the utility and all that. the benefits they can get from ownership, the incentives and how they can have a better ownership experience in everything they do online.”
