Nigerian authorities have reportedly contacted Interpol and the Kenyan police to arrest Nadeem Anjarwalla, one of Binance’s executives, who fled from police custody.
As we reported two months ago, Nigerian authorities have arrested two Binance executives: Nadeem Anjarwalla, regional head for Africa, and Tigran Gambaryan, head of financial crime. Binance reportedly aided illegal financing activities and also affected the value of the country’s sovereign fiat currency, Naira. Following the arrest, Nigerian authorities were not open to officially discussing the matter, as evidenced by legal proceedings from any jurisdiction.
Just a few weeks ago, some crypto advocacy groups banded together to use legal powers to force Nigerian authorities to handle the case according to the proper rules and laws.
Just a few days ago, Nadeem Anjarwalla somehow managed to escape from police custody, further increasing the conflict between Binance and Nigerian authorities to its worst level.
According to local media reportsthe investigative agencies are very close to finding and detaining the Binance director.
Reports confirmed that he used his Kenyan passport, but it has not been confirmed how he managed to use his Kenyan passport.
Authorities are now investigating to understand how he did it, prompting authorities to investigate how he obtained other travel documents despite being in custody.
To find this Binance director, the Nigerian police are in full contact with Interpol and Kenyan authorities to track him down and capture him.
On the other hand, Gambaryan’s case was adjourned to April 19 as the tax authorities, FIRS, asked for more time. They said they could not contact or provide documents to the Binance director, who has been with the EFCC since February 2024.
