Nocturne Crypto shuts down version 1 for new venture

Nocturne, a crypto project recently backed by prominent figures like Vitalik Buterin announced closing the first version, Nocturne v1. The project initially focused on improving account abstraction (AA) and cryptocurrency accessibility, highlighting privacy at the account layer as a unique and challenging goal in the crypto world.

Founded in the United States, Nocturne wanted to enable users to transact anonymously within the Ethereum ecosystem. The project stood out for combining stealth addresses, zero-knowledge proofs and account abstraction, providing a new solution to enable private accounts on public blockchains.

Despite the initial goals, Nocturne is shifting its focus to developing a new product in the application space. This decision comes after recognizing the need to address users’ immediate concerns about cost and user experience (UX) before delving into privacy aspects. The team realized that the transition to public Layer 2 solutions (L2s) and broader adoption of AA must precede privacy improvement efforts.

Nocturne achieved milestones such as over $500,000 in Total Value Locked (TVL) and $2 million in volume within a month. However, the project recognizes the changing landscape and user priorities in the crypto sector and is now ready to address technical and user-facing issues that are of immediate importance today.

For current Nocturne v1 users, the platform has paused deposits, swaps and staking, offering a one-year window for withdrawing funds via their website.

As Nocturne transitions to its new vision, the crypto community awaits further details on the upcoming product. This strategic pivot reflects the dynamic nature of the crypto industry, where projects must continually adapt to user needs and market trends.
