  • zkEVM’s daily active addresses have decreased.
  • Uniswap has submitted a proposal for a friendly hard fork on Polygon zkEVM.

If reported earlier, Polygon [MATIC] zkEVM expected another network upgrade that would add several new features. Polygon’s latest tweet shows that the package has successfully completed the Dragonfruit upgrade.

With the update, zkEVM has become the only package that supports Ethereum’s PUSH0.

Dragonfruit update is successful

Polygon has announced that it will release the Dragonfruit upgrade on September 20, which has now been successfully released.

The update brought Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta up to date with the latest version of Solidity, maintaining rollup equivalency with the EVM by including support for the latest EVM opcode PUSH0.

For the uninitiated, PUSH0 is the latest EVM opcode to be included in the Shanghai hard fork. The update could have resulted in an increase in zkEVM network activity, but that was not the case.

Unfortunately, the Dragonfruit update also had no positive impact on the rollup zkEVMKey figures remained low. For example, in the recent past, zkEVM’s daily active addresses took a decline. A similar trend was also noticed in terms of daily transactions.

As a result, zkEVM’s daily gas consumption also decreased. Polygonscan data showed that daily gas consumption fell sharply after the peak in late August, indicating less activity on the network.

The captured value of the rollup also decreased, which was evident in the decrease in TVL and fees. Nevertheless, the overall ecosystem appeared to have grown over the months as the total number of unique savers continued to rise.

A new hardfork could be just around the corner

In the midst of this, Uniswap [UNI] submitted a proposal for a friendly hard fork. To start, a friendly fork refers to a situation in which a protocol is duplicated, creating a new version that maintains a positive, collaborative relationship with the original project.

The newly submitted proposal aims to focus on integrating Zero Protocol as a friendly fork of Uniswap on the Polygon zkEVM chain.

According to the official proposal, Uniswap can leverage the benefits of Zero Protocol while ensuring that both projects are mutually beneficial and contribute to the evolving DeFi landscape.

The proposal suggested a structured three-week proposal timeline to ensure transparency, community involvement and thoughtful decision-making.
