Unfortunately, it’s not good news in the world of web3 gaming! Synergy of Serra, a collectible card game with some unique game mechanics, has announced that they are closing down, effective almost immediately!
Market services are already closed. In their latest announcement, the Serra team says they don’t expect any other services to remain open beyond the end of February, including crate opening.
The main reason for this closure is, as you might expect, a lack of money. Apparently funding for Synergy of Serra ran out in the summer of 2023, and they’ve been working their way up ever since. But now disagreements between the founders have put an end to everything and Synergy of Serra will close for good.
It’s unfortunate timing as with the rising market trends we see many other games jumping at the opportunity to get their token releases and land sales while investment interest is high. But unfortunately, Synergy or Serra were not in a position to try to take advantage of the current market situation.
The team says they will work on moving all map data, including artwork, to IPFS so it can potentially be retrieved for a reboot in the future. In the meantime, you have until the end of February open any remaining crates you have.

What was Serra’s synergy?
Synergy of Serra was a web3-enabled trading game, with some unique game mechanics.
In Synergy of Serra, both players start with a small, simple starting deck of ten cards. In addition, each player takes a ‘suitcase’ with them to the game. Each suitcase contains 100 cards that the player has chosen in advance. When the game starts, the contents of both suitcases are dumped into a shared card pool. During the game, players take cards from the stock and add them to their discard pile. This not only levels the playing field, but also creates room for strategic deckbuilding and customizing decisions while playing a match!
The basic card types are unit, attachment, and power cards. Attachments go to units, and Power cards are the ‘spells’ for the game. Synergy of Serra actually has a pretty decent in-game explanation of the game mechanics and keywords. Some interesting features of the game include cards that become stronger the more they are played, and the fact that if your deck runs out of cards, you simply reshuffle your graveyard and start over!
Another twist in this game is that players have no mana/energy/whatever. Instead, players are free to play any cards from their hand. Every time! Any unplayed cards are discarded and the player draws a new hand of five cards to begin their turn.
This ensures fast, action-packed gameplay. Players also earn faction points as the game progresses. Faction points are used to strengthen associated unit cards.
Synergy of Serra has halted development and closed their services. It is unclear how long their website or social links will remain available. Visit them for more information about Synergy or Serra websitefollow them further Tweetand join them Disagreement.
