Splinterlands announces another downsizing, as well as a reorganization of their projects, assigning them to specific business entities. This downsizing also leads to a shift in the organizational structure and a stronger focus on long-term objectives.
Less than ten months after their previous downsizing, Splinterlands is forced to do it again. Due to dwindling player numbers, a lackluster crypto market, and seemingly very little buying pressure for any of their tokens, Splinterlands had to make some changes.
We’re told they’ve been “forced to significantly downsize the Splinterlands organization,” but we haven’t received any details on where exactly that downsizing will hit. The biggest concern, of course, is that this change will delay development of any or all Splinterlands projects, although Yabapmatt promises that the core team for Splinterlands will remain intact. He kept one The town hall is discussing this announcement recently.

Splinterlands Reorganization
We do know that this time the downsizing will be accompanied by a reorganization. That’s probably a wise decision in the long run. The side projects that Splinterlands built, including Genesis League Sports but NOT Soulkeep (their tower defense game), will be split into a subsidiary known as Ivennium Corp. Aggroed will make the transition to head that division. Meanwhile, Yabapmatt will take over as head of Splinterlands.
The Splinterlands game and its companion Tower Defense game Soulkeep (currently in development) will be part of the Splinterlands division. Both Splinterlands and Ivennium Corp will fall under the parent umbrella of Steem Monster Corp.
This also entails a shift in priorities. Splinterlands plans to focus on long-term sustainability rather than short-term revenue generation. They mention five priorities: the Secret of Praetoria expansion (land gameplay), the Rebellion card set, attracting and retaining new players, Soulkeep and getting SPS Validators up and running.
Revolt
Along with this announcement comes a proposal from the Splinterlands team. They suggest that the Splinterlands DAO are the ones selling the packs for Rebellion (the next map expansion), with Steem Monsters Corp being hired to take charge of development and distribution!
SPS strikers should soon be able to vote on an official proposal for this change. Under the proposal, the DAO will pay Steem Monsters Corp USD 250,000 to finance the development of the expansion. It is also stipulated that all proceeds from pack sales will be split between the DAO and the Steem Monsters team.
This is an interesting proposition and could lead to a significant shift in power from the player-run DAO side of Splinterlands!
