A Melbourne couple was accidentally paid 10.5 million Australian dollars (AUD) and will now face trial in October this year.
CryptoCom is a popular crypto trading platform, known for its high-level promotional stunts. Currently, this exchange has 80 million customers worldwide. 7 years ago this exchange was founded by Bobby Bao, Kris Marszalek and Rafael Melo.
In May 2021, Thevamanogari Manivel transferred money to her partner Jatinder Singh’s Crypto.com account, but the exchange discovered that the bank account details did not match, so the exchange again issued a refund of 100 AUD, but accidentally sent 10.5 million AUD to Manivel’s bank account.
The entire misconduct remained hidden until the exchange conducted its annual audit in December 2021. To get the money back, the exchange filed a lawsuit against this couple in the Victoria Supreme Court.
From reports this couple already used almost all the money to buy property, but the court ordered the couple to return the money. According to the condition, the purchased properties will be sold to recover the money.
To get out of this lawsuit or any form of additional punishment, the couple claimed in October 2022 that they had participated in the quiz organized by the CryptoCom exchange, but the director of CryptoCom confirmed that no such quiz was organized by the exchange.
It is worth noting that Manivel does not have a clean past. In September 2023, she pleaded guilty to a crime and was previously sentenced to 18 months in prison for another crime. Singh is tentatively scheduled to appear in court on October 23.
