In 2014, the release of Hearthstone set a new standard for digital trading card games. The bar may be raised again. Sky Weaver is a genre-defining digital TCG experience.
That’s what I said in 2022 at the release of the Skyweaver open beta. After a stellar 2023, developers Horizon Blockchain Games – who are also behind the popular Web3 wallet and development platform Sequence – have unveiled a series of plans that will boost the fast-growing Web3 trading card game even further in 2024.
The team is working hard on 3 features that will take Skyweaver to the next level: Tournaments, Draft Mode and New Economy!
Each feature will get a detailed overview in the coming weeks to answer all your questions ????

Economy update
Skyweaver excels in its gameplay experience, but so far only has three ways to make money in the game; Silver Cards, Gold Cards and Conquest Tickets. This will change in 2024.
There will be two new in-game currencies; Spark and Weave.
Spark is obtained through the free Skypass and will be used to create non-blockchain base maps and participate in free tournaments.
Weave will be purchased through the premium Skypass (a monthly fee of $14.95) and will be used to mint silver and gold cards, skins and cosmetics on-chain, as well as participate in premium events with larger prize pools.
According to Community Director Marcelo Suplicy, further details will be shared in January, ahead of the launch of Spark and Weave later this year.

Card rarities
Cards in Skyweaver fall into one of three classes; non-tradable basic cards and tradable silver and gold cards. In 2024 these will be supplemented with the introduction of card rarities.
This system allows for the creation of “rarer” versions of cards at the cost of more Spark and/or Weave, creating a much more complex and complicated market economy with highly desirable, rare versions of cards.
For example, Gold cards are currently the most sought after in Skyweaver. If a Gold card was also a Legendary rarity (for example, the rarest possible), the resources required to create that card and its subsequent rarity could make it incredibly desirable and valuable to certain collectors.
An exact timetable for the introduction of card rarities has yet to be determined, although they are expected to release in 2024.

Draft mode
Skyweaver currently features two main gameplay modes; Constructed – your standard build-a-deck-and-play experience, and Discovery – where a deck of cards is randomly assigned to you each game. The latter will be replaced by a staple of the TCG genre: Draft.
In Draft, 4 players compete against each other using decks made from freshly opened packs. Over a series of rounds, players select one of eight elemental Dragon Heroes, their deck of 32 cards, and a number of events – card adjustments that can affect which cards you choose.
Players can participate in Spark one Daily Draft Ascent per day, with the chance to earn tickets to the Weekly Draft Cup – a qualifying tournament for the Seasonal Draft Championship. Relic Drafts, introduced with Weave, also offer higher Weave rewards and include tradable cards within the Draft, which players keep if selected.
Draft mode will be introduced in the first quarter of 2024.

2024 World Championship
Skyweaver’s competitive scene has grown steadily in recent years, and 2024 will see the first official World Championship.
Players can begin their journey to becoming a World Championship finalist by participating in Daily Constructed or Draft tournaments, arriving in the first quarter of 2024. These will qualify top players for Weekly Cups, with prizes including Weave, USDC and tickets to the seasonal championships. Top players in each season championship will receive significant Weave and USDC prizes and one of 32 coveted Worlds invitations.
During the 2024 World Championships, the game will see the largest USDC prize pool ever, in addition to unique tradable items and the ability to craft and/or appear on a Skyweaver map, in collaboration with their talented art and design teams.

In an environment full of hyped-up drops, tokenomics-first development and a desire to discover the next top earners, Skyweaver’s game-first philosophy has allowed it to fly under the radar for many – but in terms of gameplay quality, optimization and overall sophistication, it is unequivocally one of the best web3 games on the market today.
After five years of continuous development, the Horizon team knows how to move with passion, purpose and conviction – and for the game, the team behind it and the web3 community at large, 2024 will be Hemel’s biggest yet.
