What happens if the richest person in the world is anonymous?

TL; DR

  • If BTC eventually reaches $200,000, assuming Elon’s wealth remains the same, and Satoshi doesn’t sell a single coin… the anonymous Satoshi Nakamoto will be the richest person in the world.

It’s Friday, so let’s end it with something silly (fun + stupid).

As of today (June 14, 2024), the real-time Forbes billionaires list features 15 people who have made most of their fortunes thanks to the world of crypto (compared to just nine in 2023).

And while some early adopters spent BTC somewhat recklessly in the early days (like the man who spent 10,000 BTC on two Papa Johns pizzas in 2010), others have floundered for years.

Right now, BTC’s market cap is at a cool $1.3 trillion USD, which is about half the market cap of the entire crypto market.

And Satoshi Nakamoto (the creator of BTC and the BTC Whitepaper) owns 1.1 million of the total supply of 21 million.

Satoshi never touched their 1.1 million BTC and has always remained anonymous.

Currently, Satoshi is worth ~$73 billion USD.

Now, here’s the crazy part: Elon Musk is currently the richest person on earth with a net worth of $212.8 billion USD.

If BTC eventually reaches $200,000, and Elon’s wealth remains the same, and Satoshi doesn’t sell a single coin…

Satoshi Nakamoto will be the richest person in the world.

Can the world live while the richest person on earth is anonymous?

Think about the weekend and click ‘reply’ if you have any ideas.

Happy Friday!
