Distribution and future release

The sampler will be sold as NFTs and hosted on Base, with distribution managed by Pleasr in partnership with Privy, Crossmint and Holograph.

PleasrDAO stated that additional music from the album would be made available as they work with the original artists. The goal is to eventually release the full project, although contractual agreements prevent the public release of the full album until October 8, 2103.

Each sampler purchase shortens the countdown to the full album release by 88 seconds. Until then, the album will remain encrypted and tradeable via the cryptocurrency $ALBUM.

The Album chronicles a private listening session on March 2, 2015, during which RZA of Wu-Tang Clan and producer Cilvaringz presented the album to 150 guests, and this session was the only public broadcast of the album to date.

“Once Upon a Time in Shaolin” was originally sold to Martin Shkreli in 2015 for $2 million, under terms that limited its commercial use for 88 years.

Shkreli’s attempt to auction the album on eBay in 2017 was halted following his conviction for securities fraud. The US government later auctioned the album to PleasrDAO in 2021 for $4.75 million.

Recently, PleasrDAO filed a lawsuit against Shkreli, claiming he kept copies of the album and shared them publicly. A judge in Brooklyn issued a temporary injunction, preventing Shkreli from streaming or distributing the album’s content.
